National Highway 16 or NH 16 a National Highway in India, total length 460 km (290 mi) that connects Nizamabad in Telangana and Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh. It passes through the states of Telangana, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.[1]

Route

The highway crosses Godavari River on border of Karimnagar district and Nizamabad district of Telangana state, Pranahita River on border of Maharashtra and Telangana and Indravati River on border of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.

Additional Traveler Information

NH 16 currently has Two missing links. The Pranahita River has not been bridged across at Sironcha (Maharashtra). Further the Indravati river has not been bridged at Pattigudem (Maharashtra). Both the rivers are the interstate boundaries between Telangana- Maharashtra (Pranahitha) and Maharashtra - Chhattisgarh (Indravati). So at present NH 16 breaks on the Telangana/ Maharashtra border on the banks of river Pranahita . There is a ferry service but it does not carry cars and other vehicles. Two wheelers are ferried by the local boat operators. The highway passes through dense forests and the most of the course of the highway is through the naxalites affected areas.

The work of construction of Bridge across river Indravati at Pattigudem has been awarded under the Left extremism affected area project by the Government of India. The work may be initiated in the year 2014. The Bridge across river Pranahitha at Sironcha is yet in the planning stage.

The road is motor able from Nizamabad to Pranahitha river bank at Sironcha. However public transport from Mancherial to Sironcha is sparse. From Nizamabad to Mancherial, the connectivity is good. The road stretches from Sironcha to Pattigudem in Maharashtra. The streth from Sironcha to Asaralli (about 35 km.) is in good condition. But few bridges may be flooded in the monsoon. The stretch from Asaralli to Pattigudem (about 25 km.) is only a cart track and only all terrain vehicles can ply. Ferry services are few and limited to cross the river Indravati. You can walk through the river in lean season. This stretch of the road is almost closed during monsoon. In Chhattisgarh the road from the Indravati bank is just motorable up to Jagdalpur.
