Namburu is a suburban village in the Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is between the cities of Guntur and Vijayawada.[1] The Namuburu railway station is part of the Guntur division of the South Central Railway. It is the closest railway station for Acharya Nagarjuna University.
Geography
Namburu is on the eastern side of the Guntur city towards National Highway 5. It is situated between Vijayawada (18 km) and Guntur (12 km).
Geographically, Namburu is divided into four parts:
- Namburu village: This is the central village where 25,000 people (including minors) live. It is blessed with good natural resources and fertile lands. The main crops grown here are paddy, maize, and black gram. Primarily Nambur is an agriculture-dependent village. This area is well built with schools, colleges, markets, shops, temples, etc. The village governance is done from there. Village panchayat, veterinary hospital, government hospitals, government schools are here. This area is best for livelihood and has a very good water supply.
- Nagarjuna Nagar: This area is located north west accommodating Acharya Nagarjuna university, junior,degree, pg colleges, rain tree park township, Christian ministries.
- Kali Gardens is located on the west and it is a spiritual center accommodating spiritual university, school, super speciality hospital, ayurvedic massage centers, babu vignan mandir, temples. This area has a considerable number of people.
- Nambur railway station: This area contains a considerable number of people. Rail transport and roadways are well built in this area.
History
So many stories regarding the village are popularised. Archaeologists found remains of the rock era in Namburu village. From the second century AD Namburu had its own status in the history of Andhra Pradesh. Namburu became a Buddhist monastery in second century in the ruling of Satavahanas (dynasty). Later the village was destroyed and it is believed from 13th century the village was again constructed and later Reddy Dynasty kings ruled Namburu for about 200 years. Later Namburu became a part of Vijayanagara dynasty. After ruled by Rajavasireddy venkatadri naidu (jamindar of achampet) during the rule of British.
A lot of people moved away from the village with each invasion and destruction. To maintain a connection to their roots, they took on the name of either Namburi or Namburaru.
Regarding the Buddhist monastery remains of Maha Stupa and many Buddhist statues are found by the archaeology department of Andhra Pradesh and kept at Acharya Nagarjuna university museum. Some information about Nambur village is on the inscriptions of Sri panakala lakshmi narasimha swami temple, Mangalagiri.
Demographics
As of 2011, the population of Namburu is approximately 24000, 16000 of whom are eligible voters.
The population is predominantly Hindu (91%). There are a considerable number of Muslims and Christians. Here the major group of people is Reddy.
All the people of Namburu belong to the Dravidian race or Indo-Aryan stock. People are very friendly and good. Namburu people generally are very traditional and religious in nature yet have a tolerant view of the other religions and a cosmopolitan outlook. They revere the natural world and believe in lying low where Nature is concerned as manifested in the Shaivite tradition in South India.
Language
The language of communication is Telugu (తెలుగు).
Climate
The village has good environment, free from pollution. Normally the average temperature is about 27 °C (81 °F) to 35 °C (95 °F) while in summer it reaches a peak of 45 sometimes.
Culture and tradition
The people are very traditional and have their own style of culture when compared to other towns. Normally women wear sarees, gents in lungies and pancha along with a head in the present day fashion.
Cuisine
People of Nambur are very particular in their cuisine with special items like pulihora, payasam, etc. which will be at their special occasions along with the spicy foods. Some of the chief varieties of spices used here include cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. The food is mainly rice, which the south Indian people love to have with a combination of Sambhar or curry and casual pickles. A generous, balanced use of spices in most of the vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes of this region. Similarly, in most of the dishes that are prepared here, the final tempering remains almost same, which includes a perfect mixture of oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves and red chilies etc.
All the festivals like Mahashivaratri, Divali, Ganeshchaturdhi, Dhasara, Naga Panchami Karthika Pournami are celebrated in Namburu.

Namburu is well linked with cities like Guntur and Vijayawada by the National Highway No 5, the best way of transport here. Road links are also in between Namburu to Mangalagiri Via kaza, Namburu to Pedakakani,Namburu to Chiluvuru ,Namburu to Tenali Via penumaluru , duggiralla. Namburu to Venigandla,uppalapadu,Koppuravuru,kanteru,kaza and Tadikonda via Koppuravuru,kanteru other villages making transport easier.
Railways
Namburu railway station connects Namburu and other cities. It is a railway station in the south central railway. Every day train are between Namburu to Hyderabad by simhadri and golkonda trains trains are between Namburu to Vizag, Vijayawada, Guntur, Chennai and other cities. Private transport is another mode.
