Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) is a public medical college and medical research university based in Patna, India.[1] The institute was established in 1970 and is situated in Kankarbagh. It has a capacity of 100 student in each batch. Nalanda Medical College is a self-financed institute affiliated to Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna. It is recognized by Medical Council of India. It offers undergraduate courses with specialization in Medicine and Dental Surgery. Post Graduate Courses in all specialisations including medicine, surgery, gynaecology, anaesthesiology, pediatrics, dermatology have also been started since 2010.
History
Nalanda Medical College, Patna, was established in 1970 as a private medical college.[2] It was established by Dr. Vijay Narayain Singh, Dr. Madhusudan Das and Dr. Shailendra Kumar Sinha, along with Shri Krishna Kant Singh, the ex-education minister of Bihar.
The classes started on 2 April 1970 under the principalship of Dr. Shailendra Kumar Sinha. In the beginning 150 students were admitted. In 1978 it was taken over by the government of Bihar and was recognized by the Medical Council of India. The student intake was reduced to 50 and were selected by state and central government competitive examination.[3]
Overview
The college is situated on Kankarbagh old Bypass road. The department of Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemestry, Microbiology, PSM, FMT and Pharmacology are situated there.
Nalanda Medical College has two hostels for boys and one for girls.
The hospital is located at Agamkuan with 100 acres of land. Departments of the hospital are spread over several buildings on the campus. Apart from regular medical treatment and care, national health programs like pulse polio vaccination program are also run. NMCH is a major hub for treatment in eastern Patna, taking care of approximately 2000 patient per day in OPD.
The hospital has about 750 beds The hospital has a lecture theatre fully air-conditioned with multimedia projector and other audio video aids. It has a seminar hall. OT is equipped with equipment for minimally invasive surgery and Endourology.[4]
The 750-bed Nalanda Medical college and hospital (NMCH), the third biggest in the state after Patna Medical College and Hospital and Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital.[5] It offers housejobs to students who are undergraduate and want to be more trained in their faculty of interest.[6][7]
