Naissaare Lighthouse (Estonian: Naissaare Tuletorn) - a lighthouse located on the island of Naissaar (in the Gulf of Finland), Viimsi Parish, in Harju County; in Estonia.[2]
History
The first lighthouse on the island of Naissaar was built in 1788. This early lighthouse compromised on beacons in the northernmost and southernmost points of the island. The deteriorating lighthouse in the northernmost point of the island was replaced by a limestone structure in 1849. The lighthouse was heavily damaged during the Crimean War, however it was reconstructed in 1856.[3] The stone lighthouse was destroyed by Soviet troops in 1941, during World War II. After World War II, a temporary wooden structure lighthouse was built and in service between 1946 and 1960, after which a 45-metre reinforced concrete lighthouse was built in its place. The lantern room was installed in 1999. The lighthouse serves as a landmark to the traditional look of Estonian lighthouses, with the lighthouse's keeper leaving his service in the year of 2004.[4]
