NAIJ.com or Naij.com is a Nigerian news and entertainment portal that features aggregated news content [2][3][4] along with original and exclusive reporting by top journalists and opinion-makers across the country and beyond. Its balanced style of reportage caused the website's servers to be the victim of a targeted attack by hackers, in July 2015.[5] It is ranked as the 16th overall most visited website in Nigeria by Alexa.[6]

History

Founded in 2012, Naij.com has its headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria and launched an editorial hub in Abuja in May 2015.

Popularity

As at July 2015, it has more than 13 million monthly readers and is widely regarded as the most popular local news website in Nigeria.[7][8] It is ranked as the 16th overall most visited website in Nigeria by Alexa.[6] Currently the website's Facebook community is over 2.7 million.[9]

Naij.com also partnered with browser software makers Opera and telecoms giant MTN in 2015 to bring one million days of free Internet to Nigeria.[10][11][12][13] [14][15][16][17][18][18][19] [20] [21]

Contributors

Working along with the main editorial team, are some of Nigeria’s most popular bloggers and columnists: Japheth J. Apart from the heavyweights, Naij.com also generates a lot of content based on user-submitted stories. The opinion section frequently features texts authored by people outside the Nigerian media circles, who share interesting angles on current affairs or their captivating personal experiences.

Hacker attack

In July 2015, Naij.com suffered an unprecedented hacker attack on its servers in a perceived retaliation for its high-profile exposés and is helping local security agencies in investigations to find the perpetrators.
