Nacional Potosí is one of Bolivia's oldest football clubs, it was founded on March 24, 1942. The team played in second division football most of its years. When in 2004 it came under the ownership of Emilio Alave, the team embarked on a serious attempt to win promotion to the professional league, coming close in 2007 when losing to Aurora on the relegation play-off. The following year Nacional came back and won the Copa Simon Bolívar, gaining promotion to first division. In 2009 Nacional made his debut in the Liga de Fútbol Profesional Boliviano. However, the club couldn't survive its first season and was relegated.
