Murugeshpalya is a locality in Bangalore.[1] It lies near the Old Airport Road, nearby HAL airport and to the south of Jeevanbheemanagar. The area is mostly residential with many apartments. The largest apartment in the area is Salarpuria Splendor.[2] The Visveswaraya college is located opposite to the Salarpuria Splendor building.[3] The key landmarks located in this area are the Shiva temple and the Kemp Fort shopping complex[4] which was replaced by Total Mall in the year 2008.[5]

The Shiva Temple

Shiva Statue which is 65 feet tall

The Shiva Temple[6] has a statue made of cement concrete which is 65 feet tall. The temple also has a huge Lord Ganesha statue and a Navagraha temple inside. This temple is open 24 hours. Beneath the statue, there is a pathway where models of Shiva lingas in different forms, and these are often replicas of the lingas found in other parts of the country. One of the famous lingas located here is made of ice and it is said to be a replica of Amarnath.[7]

Waste Management Issues

There is a waste collection and management problem in the area. BBMP waste collection vehicles dump the garbage near schools on the main road of Murugeshpalya.
