Murarai II (community development block) (Bengali: মুরারই II সমষ্টি উন্নয়ন ব্লক) is an administrative division in Rampurhat subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Murarai police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Paikar.[1][2]

Geography

Mitrapur, a constituent panchayat of Murarai II block, is located at 24°25′33″N 87°57′33″E / 24.4259°N 87.9592°E / 24.4259; 87.9592.

Murarai II community development block has an area of 184.42  km2.[2]

Gram panchayats

Gram panchayats of Murarai II block/panchayat samiti are: Amdole, Jajigram, Kushmore I, Kushmore II, Mitrapur, Nandigram, Paikar I, Paikar II and Rudranagar.[3]

Demographics

As per 2001 census, Murarai II block had a total population of 177,730, out of which 90,522 were males and 87,208 were females. Murarai II block registered a population growth of 22.65 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for Birbhum district was 17.88 per cent.[2] Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.[4]

Scheduled castes at 33,722 formed around one-fifth the population. Scheduled tribes numbered 1,055.[5]

Literacy

As per 2001 census, Murarai II block had a total literacy of 46.24 per cent for the 6+ age group. While male literacy was 54.48 per cent female literacy was 37.66 per cent. Birbhum district had a total literacy of 61.48 per cent, male literacy being 70.89 per cent and female literacy being 51.55 per cent.[6]
