Eastern Lapland sub-region

- Pelkosenniemi
- Posio
- Salla
- Savukoski (Northern Sami: Suovvaguoika)
Tunturi Lapland sub-region
- Enontekiö (Swedish: Enontekis, Northern Sami: Eanodat)
- Kittilä (Northern Sami: Gihttel)
- Kolari
- Muonio
Northern Lapland sub-region
- Inari (Inari Sami: Aanaar, Northern Sami: Anár, Skolt Sami: Aanar, Swedish: Enare)
- Sodankylä (Northern Sami: Soađegilli)
- Utsjoki (Northern Sami: Ohcejohka, Skolt Sami: Uccjokk)
Former municipalities
- Rovaniemen maalaiskunta (Swedish: Rovaniemi landskommun), merged with Rovaniemi in 2006.
- Kemijärven maalaiskunta (Swedish: Kemijärvi landskommun), merged with Kemijärvi in 1973.
- Petsamo, ceded to the Soviet Union in 1944.
