Mu Virginis (μ Vir, μ Virginis) is a star in the constellation Virgo. It has the traditional name Rijl al Awwa.[1]

Rijl al Awwa is a yellow star of apparent magnitude 3.88 and spectral class F2 III[2] about 61 light years from Earth. This star has 1.7 times the mass of the Sun and 2.1 times the Sun's radius. It is shining with 9.8 times the Sun's luminosity, which it is radiating from its outer atmosphere at an effective temperature of 7,140 K.[2]

Etymology

The medieval name Rijl al Awwa is from the Arabic رجل العوى rijl al-‘awwa’ "The foot of the barking (dog)".
