Mr. Six (Chinese: 老炮儿) (previously known as Fading Wave) is a 2015 Chinese crime drama film directed by Guan Hu and written by Dong Runnian. It stars Feng Xiaogang, Zhang Hanyu, Xu Qing, Li Yifeng and Kris Wu.[4] The film closed the 72nd Venice International Film Festival in an out-of-competition screening.[5] Main cast member Feng Xiaogang and Li Yifeng are scheduled to attend the festival on Sept 12, 2015. Mr. Six was selected to be screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.[6] Mr. Six was released on December 24, 2015 in China.[7]

On November 22, 2015, Feng Xiaogang, won the Best Actor Award at the 52nd Golden Horse Awards for his performance in Mr. Six.[8]

Plot

Mr. Six tells of a 50-or-so-year-old street punk called “Lao Pao Er” who has reigned over the Beijing streets as the neighbourhood kingpin for many years. One day, when his mischievous son causes a dispute against a much younger drag-racing street gang leader, he steps up to help defend him. “Lao Pao Er” attempts to settle the debts of his son by relying on his old school rules and the help of his old friends. In this attempt to rescue his son and their relationship he becomes tangled up in something much bigger than originally realized.[9]

Production

Principal photography commenced in late November 2014[5] in Beijing[7] and ended in February 2015. On December 12, 2014, Feng Xiaogang, Liu Hua, Zhang Hanyu, Wang Zhonglei, Guan Hu, Li Yifeng, Xu Qing, Liang Jing, and Kris Wu attended the opening ceremony.[10]

Box office

The film grossed US$27 million on its opening weekend in China.[11]
