momondo.com is a Copenhagen-based travel metasearch engine that enables users to find and compare prices on airplane tickets, hotels, cars and travel deals. momondo does not sell tickets directly, instead it provides an overview of available travel services on the internet and refers its users to travel providers.[1] The technology of momondo enables its users to gain insight into the prices of airplane tickets and to get an assessment of the attractiveness of a flight ticket based on its price and travel time.[2] In 2014 momondo was estimated to be worth 130 million euros.

momondo has also published a line of travel guide books,[3] including a guide of Copenhagen, made in cooperation with the famous Danish restaurant noma.[4][5]

History

momondo was first launched in September 2006.[1] At the time, it was only a flight search engine. In October 2007, momondo was re-launched and expanded to comprise city guides and travel articles. Since then, momondo has been further expanded to also offer price comparisons for vacation packages, hotels, cars and travel deals.

The travel search engine is multilingual, so it is possible to conduct searches in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Polish, Ukrainian, Chinese, English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Romanian, Dutch and Turkish.

In April 2011, momondo and its parent company Skygate was acquired by the British/American travel search company Cheapflights Media Ltd (now momondo group Ltd). At the time, the head office of momondo continues to be located in Denmark, and the company continues to operate as an independent subsidiary.[6]
