Modern High School for Girls is a private school (nursery, junior and senior school) in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The director is Devi Kar. MHS won the British Council - International School Award for the period 2011 to 2014 as also the CINI and Save the Children Best School Award for "Each One Teach One" campaign.
The school motto is "Satyam Shivam Sundaram".
History
Modern High School for Girls was founded by Mrs. B.M. Birla on January 3, 1952. The school was set up at 28, Camac Street with Mrs. Violet Clarke as the first Principal. In 1953 the senior school moved to a new location 33, Theatre Road (now Shakespeare Sarani), Calcutta (now Kolkata). The junior school remained at the same location.
The foundation stone for the present school building was laid by the then Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. B.C. Roy on December 9, 1957 and in March 1960; the senior school was transferred to the present building at 78, Syed Amir Ali Avenue.

- Mrs I.L. Wilson de Roze was Headmistress for the longest period, from 1965-2000.
- Mrs. D. Kar, joined in April 2000 as Principal and now the Director,
- Mrs. Kaveri Dutt - April 2012 to December 2014.
- Mrs. Damayanti Mukherjee - January 2015 to now.

Examinations
The school is affiliated to the CISCE. Students take ICSE and ISC examinations.

Co-curricular activities include sports, public speaking, quizzing, creative writing, art appreciation (visual and performing), environmental projects and environmental awareness, community service projects, Information Technology, music and dance.

In 1985, 'Maitree', the inter-school fest organized by classes XI and XII, was held for the first time at the Ice Skating Rink. In March 1987, the foundation stone for the Science Hall with the Planetarium was laid. Computer classes started in the Science Hall from February 1988, after its inauguration. Modern High School celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2002.

Infrastructure
- In the Planetarium students are exposed to the wonders of the sky and universe through shows.
- There are two Computer Laboratories.
- The school houses laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Home Science.
- Library.
- Canteen.
- Conference Room on the ground floor.
- Goethe Zimmer, a German language room on the top floor.
- Sports Ground: Although the school is located in the heart of the city it has grounds, a playing field and basketball courts,including a hard court.
- The multipurpose hall, called ‘The Shed’ serves as an informal auditorium. It has a sound-proofing system, a mobile stage, lighting arrangements and a central air-conditioning system. The shed is used for Morning Assembly, PT classes, throw ball and badminton matches, Parent-Teacher meetings, Guide meetings, program mes on Independence/Republic Day/Teachers' Day etc., debates, quizzes, and exams
- The Gymnasium is centrally air-conditioned and equipped with exercising and fitness machines.
- There are two audio-visual rooms, one on the ground floor and another one on the fifth floor fitted with computers, overhead projectors and a Smart Board.
