Mobile Fun is an e-commerce retailer headquartered in Birmingham, in the United Kingdom. The company was founded in 2000 by Anthony Cook and Dennis Cook[3][4] as a retailer of mobile accessories and mobile downloads. The company is now one of the UK's largest online retailers of Mobile phone accessories.[5][n. 1]
Having opened its first international store in Hamburg, Germany in 2008,[2] Mobile Fun continued its international growth,[2][3] shipping to 50 countries worldwide and opening offices in Germany, France, Spain and the USA.
History
Anthony Cook (21 years old at the time) and Dennis Cook initially founded Mobile Fun in 2000 in Wimbledon[3] and subsequently relocated it to Birmingham.[4] In 2008, the company began a programme of international expansion, establishing an office in Hamburg, Germany in 2008, followed by an office in Paris, France in 2010.[6] Mobile Fun websites were launched for Spain and the Netherlands the following year.[7] Stores were then launched in Italy[8] and the USA[9] in 2012.
As at January 2012 Mobile Fun had a workforce of 54 employees[2] of which 12 are international.[10] Mohammed Hussain, who has been with Mobile Fun since 2003, became its Managing Director in 2009. He won the award from the Institute of Directors as Young Director of the Year for the West Midlands region in 2011.[11] Alex Ashman is the e-commerce manager [12] and Shiah Yoong the product and purchasing manager.[13]
Mobile Fun retails a range of products, approximately 7,000, which are sourced from over 170 global suppliers.[14] Its products include cellular and smart phone cases, batteries, tablets, Kindle and other mobile accessories.[2] Goods are shipped from its warehouse in Birmingham with its major market being the UK.[3] It is now one of the UK's leading Internet retailers of mobile phone accessories.[11] Financial year reports for the period ending 31 March 2013 indicate that Mobile Fun had revenue of over £11.5 million.[1]
In 2014, Mobile Fun announced the acquisition[15] of Playfect, a mobile and gaming accessories manufacturer and also launched Accessory Lab, a new mobile accessories distribution business.[16]
