Mitch Garber (born September 5, 1964) is a Canadian born business executive.
Professional career
Mitch Garber is the CEO of Caesars Acquisition Company, a public company trading on Nasdaq (CACQ) which controls Caesars Interactive Entertainment, Las Vegas resorts; Planet Hollywood, Bally's, The Cromwell, The Linq Hotel, as well as Harrah's New Orleans, and the Horseshoe casino in Baltimore. He is also CEO of Caesars Interactive Entertainment (CIE), the private company he co-founded in 2009, and one of the largest and most profitable social and mobile game companies in the world.
He is the Chairman and part of the ownership group of the Cirque Du Soleil. [2]
From 2006-2008 Garber was CEO of London Stock Exchange listed online entertainment and gaming leader PartyGaming Plc.[3]
He was CEO of Optimal Payments Inc, (Nasdaq) from 2003-2006,[4] and held senior executive positions at Terra Payments Inc. (Toronto Stock Exchange) from 1999-2003.
He was a practicing lawyer from 1990-1999 specializing in gaming law. During that time he was also a television and radio sportscaster in Montreal.[5]
Education and other credits
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Relations from McGill University (1986) and a Law Degree from the University of Ottawa (1989).
In 2009, he was named one of the 10 most influential people in the gaming industry by Global Gaming Business magazine.[6] He has spoken on gaming and the internet in the British House of Lords, and has given expert testimony in the Canadian Senate, assisting in the shaping of gaming policy in Canada.[7]
Philanthropy
Mitch Garber and his wife Anne-Marie Boucher are active philanthropists, focusing on education, healthcare, water, and scientific research. Among their charitable commitments, Mr. Garber;
- Sits on the board of the One Drop Foundation led by Guy Laliberte, founder of Cirque Du Soleil.
- Works closely with Rene Angelil and Celine Dion on major fundraising initiatives benefiting Cystic Fibrosis.
- Has established the Garber Family Post Doctorate Fellowship in Hereditary Cancer at McGill University Faculty of Medicine.
- Is a Patron and major contributor to Aleh Jerusalem and Aleh Negev hospitals in Israel. Ms. Boucher sits on the Board.
- Is a longtime Patron of the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation which has built a free children's cancer hospital in St. Petersburg, Russia.
- Is a Patron of the St. Mary's Hospital (Montreal). Ms. Boucher sits on the Foundation Board.
- Is a Patron and major contributor to the Cell Architecture Lab of the Dep't of Structural Biology at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. Ms. Boucher sits on the Canadian Board.
- Is a Patron of The Western Wall Heritage Foundation in Israel.
- With his wife are Patrons of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) organizing missions of non-Jewish business and political leaders to Israel.
- Is a Patron and major contributor to Lower Canada College in Montreal. Ms. Boucher sits on the Board.
- Member of the Board of Montreal Inc. Foundation [8] encouraging entrepreneurship for Montreal start-ups
- Member of the Faculty Advisory Board of the McGill University Faculty of Medicine
- Sits on the board of the Business Families Foundation with Philippe de Gaspé Beaubien
Miscellaneous
- Mitch Garber co-stars on French Canadian television show Dans L'oeil du Dragon, [9] [10] for the 2015 season. The show is the French language version of the popular English shows Shark Tank and Dragon's Den
- Several Canadian media outlets reported that Mitch Garber is part of an investor group seeking to bring Major League Baseball back to Montreal [11][12]
- For his 50th birthday, he threw a party in Montreal with live performances by renowned platinum artists Eddie Money and Loverboy as well as L.A. DJ Sandra Luesse. He and his guests donated more than $150,000 to charity.[13]
