Miss Malta is the most prestigious pageant in Malta for Maltese for being ambassador in the country. This pageant is not related to Miss World Malta or Miss Earth Malta pageants.
History
The Miss Malta contest was established in 1963 by the late George & Deggie Gatt Mangion as GM Productions. Over the years, the contest gave an opportunity to some 980 participants to show off their inner and outer beauty locally and abroad through representing Malta at International Beauty Contests around the World. In 2014 Edition is under the management of Glow Promotions, directed by Alan J. Darmanin & Jeff Francalanza who took over the complete organization of the event with the aim to re-brand it and give it a new and complete makeover. Glow Promotions has been in the modelling industry for the past ten years, organizing various beauty pageants and events.
National franchises
In the early years the winner participated in Miss World pageant. Between the years 1968 and 2001 the Miss Malta winners participated in the Miss Universe pageant. Rosalie Theuma was the last Maltese representative in Miss Universe. After this, starting from the year 2013,[1] the Miss Malta winner took part in Miss Intercontinental and managed to make it into the Top 15 semi-finalists in the year 2007 with Jasmin Schellmann.[2] Previously, Miss Malta also handled Miss World, Miss International and Miss Europe contests.
Nowadays Miss Malta has become the national franchise holder for Miss Supranational, Miss Intercontinental and Miss Grand International.
Titleholders
The winner of Miss Malta represents her country at Miss Universe. On occasion, when the winner does not qualify (due to age) for either contest, a runner-up is sent.
