For the first time ever, Miss Asia Pacific International was held in May 21 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with a participation from 16 countries. Bernadine Rosemarie Fernando Ramanayake of Sri Lanka was crowned as Miss Asia Pacific 1981.
