Millie Inbetween is a British children's sitcom series broadcast on CBBC and stars Millie Innes. The first series premiered on 1st October 2014. It focuses on 13-year-old Millie and her 15-year-old sister whose parents have recently split up.[2]
Production
In March 2014, BBC commissioned a new 13-part series called The Millie Show.[3] The show name was then changed Millie Inbetween. It was filmed in Dumbarton, Scotland at the River City Studios.[3]
Plot (Series 1)
Millie McDonald (Millie Innes) is a 13-year-old girl who lives with her 15-year-old sister Lauren McDonald (Tallulah Greive). Their parents have split up, so the two sisters are constantly swapping living with 'Mum' Sharon, (Hannah Jane Fox) and 'Dad' Tony (James Bachman). Millie loves the upsides of her new family set-up; two Christmas celebrations, two birthdays, and two bedrooms. However, the downsides are more tricky to come to terms with, as her parents start new relationships. The parents' new partners have children, too - and they all want to move in. Sharon has a new partner called Mike, who has a son called Craig, who is a nightmare. Tony has a new partner called Amber, who has 2 children called Fran and Jake. Millie gets on quite well with Amber's kids.[4][5]
Plot (Series 2)
Second series. Millie, Lauren and Craig all grow closer together. They are now a family. It is Sharon and Tony's wedding anniversary and to celebrate, Great Aunt Gloria comes. But the problem is, she doesn't know about the divorce. So they all have to play along. Mille and Fran go head to head in a spell-Olympics and Jake bribes Milo Scott to re-enter. Christmas arrives and Millie meets Santa Claus and learns an important message. Mike feels lonely without Craig there at Christmas so goes to find him and bring him home. It is Parent's Evening and Millie is determined that Sharon and Tony will not see Miss Knope, the English teacher. Tony and Amber break up temporarily.
Characters
- Millie McDonald (Millie Innes) is a 13-year-old girl who lives with her 15-year-old sister. She, with her sister, is constantly swapping living with Mum and Dad. She loves the upsides of her new family set-up and has a positive attitude towards her mum and dad's split-up. She is the peacemaker of the family, and is friends with Craig.
- Lauren McDonald (Tallulah Greive) is a 15-year-old girl who lives with her 13-year-old sister Millie. She, with her sister, is constantly swapping living with Mum and Dad. She has a very negative attitude to, not just her parents split-up, but to almost everything. She goes to all measures to get her parents back together. She is obsessed with a boy band called The Temper Hearts.
- Sharon (Hannah Jane Fox) is Millie and Lauren's mum. She works at supermarket chain "Sunnyshoppers" and has an ex-husband (who is Lauren and Millie's father). She is dating her personal-trainer from the gym. She can easily be guilt-tripped, and often needs advice from Millie.
- Tony (James Bachman (Series 1)/Richard Lumsden (Series 2), is Millie and Lauren's dad. He lives in a flat, with Millie and Lauren with him some of the time and Amber, Fran and Jake with him at others. Sometimes they are all there at once. He didn't like his and Sharon's split, but he is happier now he is with Amber.
- Mike (Jeremy Edwards) is Mum's personal trainer at the gym and boyfriend. His annoying catchphrase is "Heya, hiya!" He loves Craig, but doesn't like spending time with him very much, and is happy to leave him to do whatever it is that he does in his room.
- Craig (Theo Stevenson) is Mike's son. He lives with Mike, Sharon, Millie and Lauren. He loves listening to music, playing video games and eating. He tries to fit in with Millie and her family.
- Amber (Jaye Jacobs) is Fran and Jake's mum, and Millie and Lauren's stepmum. She works as a midwife, and on one occasion, had to deliver a baby in Tony's flat.
- Fran (Mya Lecia-Naylor) (aka Fran-Pants) She is the daughter of Amber and brother of Jake. She is the same age as Millie. Fran, her mother and brother live in a house with her aunt and uncle at times and in a flat with stepdad Tony at others.
- Jake (Marley Lockhart) is Amber's son. He talks a lot, gets distracted easily and gets hyper when he has too much sugar. He is very clumsy and is also naïve at times but has a good heart.
