Mikis Mantakas

Mikis Mandakas (Greek: Μίκης Μάντακας; June 13, 1952 – February 28, 1975) was a Greek Nationalist and student who was murdered by far-leftists in Italy during riots.

Biography

Mikis Mandakas born in Athens. He was the son of army officer Nikos Mandakas and Calliope. During the dictatorship was in Italy, first in Bologna and then to Rome for dissertation on medicine studies. There he had joined the youth of Italian nationalistic party, MSI, FUAN.

The Murder

On February 24, 1975 in city of Rome, begins the trial of three far-left accused the burning of the house of the secretary of the local organization of the MSI in April 1974, where two children, Stefano and Virtzilio Matei (8 and 22 years respectively), were burnt alive after an arson attack on their home, which was aimed father Matei, a known member of the Italian nationalistic party MSI in the region. Police have surrounded the courthouse because of the strong presence of far-left demonstrators. The left guy calls for protests and protesters go out of control with consequent throwing bricks, stones and Molotov cocktails. The fights continued and the next two days. On the fourth day of the trial carried out a protest rally where the MSI condemned the inaction of the government towards the incidents. During the intense fighting injured 22 other people, both of them beaten by bullets.[1] Blood transfusions are ongoing, while the neurosurgeon makes admission to surgery. The statements of the doctor was: "The missile entered the left area of the parietal bone and crossed the entire skull, making the brain to explode." The surgery lasts two hours and at 18:30 the heart of Mikis Mandaka stops beating.

Reactions

The killer was Alvaro Lojacono, member of the Italian Communists and later the Red Brigades. For this crime sentenced in 1981 to 16 years in prison.[2] In Italy, on the occasion of the assassination Mandaka, political unrest followed resulting in the creation of an armed branch (NAR) of former members of the MSI. The hatred of the far left led to hundreds, armed now, attacks from the NAR, which arrived on 28 February 1978 to assassinate the a far leftist and attacking three other comrades, the time they exited from a far left hangout.
