Michael (Mike) Steib is an American internet executive based in New York City. He is currently Chief Executive Officer of XO Group Inc. (NYSE: XOXO).[1]
Steib has appeared as an industry expert on Bloomberg TV[2][3] and Fox Business,[4] as well as in The New York Times,[5] Wall Street Journal,[6] Fast Company,[7]AdAge, [8] Los Angeles Times,[9][10] FoxNews.com,[11] CNNMoney,[12] Mashable,[13] The Hollywood Reporter,[14] Business Insider,[15] and AdWeek.[16][17]
Career
Steib joined XO Group as president in July 2013 [1] and assumed the role of CEO in March 2014. Under Steib's leadership, XO Group has acquired Hoppit, a restaurant recommendation search engine; Gojee, a recipe-based recommendation engine;[18] and GigMasters, an online event booking service.[19] He also facilitated XO Group's transformation from a traditional online media company to a digital marketplace that connects young couples to the professionals, services, and products that they need to successfully get married and become parents.[3]
From 2011 to 2013, Steib served as CEO of Vente-Privee USA, an ecommerce venture backed by American Express.[20][21][22]
In January 2007, Steib joined Google as Director of TV Ads.[23] He spent more than four years at Google helping to build Google’s mobile and video advertising businesses.[24]
From 2001 through 2006, Steib held positions at NBC Universal.[25] He joined as vice president in the NBC Corporate Development group and then became the General Manager of Strategic Ventures at NBC Universal,[26] where he received the GE Imagination Breakthrough award for NBC Weather Plus.[27]
Steib worked previously at Walker Digital, an internet incubator, and at McKinsey & Company.[28]
He also serves on the board of Fortune 500 financial services company, Ally Financial (NYSE: ALLY),[29] and is Co-chairman of the Board of Literacy Partners,[30] a nonprofit that has provided free adult literacy and family support services to thousands of New Yorkers for over forty years.
Awards
In 2015, Steib received the CEO World Award;[31] Stevie International Business Award,[32] and Folio 100 recognition.[33]
In 2008, Steib was honored as one of Crain’s New York 40 Under 40 professionals[34] and one of TV Week’s “Twelve to Watch." [35]
In 2007, Steib was selected for the Multichannel News “40 Under 40” list in 2007.[24]
He was chosen for TVWeek's “Hot List” in 2006.[36]
Personal life
Steib received a BA in Economics and a BA in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998.[37]
He played a supporting actor role in the independent film The Mad Ones.[38]
He and his wife live in New York City with their two children.
