Mike James (born April 13, 1991) is an American football running back who played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL) 2013 - 2015. He played college football at the University of Miami.

Early years

He attended Ridge Community High School in Davenport, Florida. He was ranked as the 18th-best running back prospect by Scout.com and was ranked as the 21st best running back prospect by Rivals.com.[1] He also was ranked as the 33rd running back by ESPN.com.[1] He was selected to The Ledger's all-county first-team as a running back. He was an FSWA All-State honorable mention in high school.[1] He was selected to the Mobile Press-Register's Super Southeast 120.[1]

College career

James played college football at the University of Miami. During his college football career, he played 40 games and rushed for 1340 yards on 304 carries with 17 TDs. In 2010 and 2011, he played mainly as a backup for Damien Berry and Lamar Miller. In 2012, he and Duke Johnson shared playing time.

Professional career

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

On April 27, 2013, Mike James was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round (189th overall) in the 2013 NFL Draft. James signed his contract on May 13, 2013 and also got a $103,152 signing bonus and his four-year deal is worth $2,263,152. James was waived by the Buccaneers on September 29, 2015.

On December 26, 2015, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers promoted James to the 53-man roster and placed defensive tackle Akeem Spence on injured reserve.[2]
