Mickle Island

Mickle Island (77°34′S 166°13′E / 77.567°S 166.217°E / -77.567; 166.217Coordinates: 77°34′S 166°13′E / 77.567°S 166.217°E / -77.567; 166.217) is a very small island 1 nautical mile (2 km) southeast of Flagstaff Point, close off the west side of Ross Island, Antarctica. It was charted and so named by the British Antarctic Expedition, 1907–09, led by Ernest Shackleton. The name appears to be capricious or whimsical, "mickle" meaning "great."[1]
