Michael J. Battle

The Rev. Dr. Michael Jesse Battle (born 1964) is Provost and Canon Theologian at the Cathedral Center of the Diocese of Los Angeles.[1][2] He was Rector of Church of Our Savior, San Gabriel, California.[3] He is currently Professor of Church and Society at The General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church (GTS).

He graduated from Duke University, Princeton Theological Seminary with a M.Div. in 1989, Yale University with a S.T.M. in 1991, and Duke University with a Ph.D. in 1995. He was Assistant Professor of Spirituality and Black Church Studies, Duke University.[4]

He was seminary administrator at Virginia Theological Seminary.[5] He was Vice President, Associate Dean of Academic Studies and Associate Professor of Theology at Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia. He was also currently serving as the Provost at St. Athanasius' Episcopal Congregation in Los Angeles, California. He served as chaplain to the Episcopal House of Bishops.

He is married to Raquel; they have three children, Sage, Bliss and Zion.[6]
