Michael Cichy (born July 8, 1990 in New Hartford, Connecticut) is an American professional ice hockey player who is currently playing on Ciarko PBS Bank STS Sanok in the Polska Hokej Liga (PHL), the top-level ice hockey league in Poland. He was selected by the Montreal Canadiens organization of the NHL in the 7th round (199th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Playing career
After two seasons (2007–09) in the USHL with the Tri-City Storm and Indiana Ice, Cichy went to University of North Dakota where he began to play with the North Dakota Fighting Sioux with the 2009-10 season. After two seasons with the Fighting Sioux, Cichy opted to sit out a year in order to transfer to play with the Western Michigan Broncos of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in his final college years.
Unsigned by the Montreal Canadiens, Cichy opted to begin his professional career in the ECHL, signing a one-year deal with the Florida Everblades on August 6, 2014.[1] Prior to the 2014–15 season, Cichy was released from his contract after training camp and was later signed to a trial contract in Poland with STS Sanok on October 25, 2014.[2] He signed with Orlik Opole for the 2015-16 season, before returning to STS Sanok on January 31, 2016.[3]
