Michael Burlingame (historian)

Michael Burlingame is an American historian, and Naomi B. Lynn Distinguished Chair in Lincoln Studies, at University of Illinois, Springfield.[1][2] He previously was the May Buckley Sadowski '19 Professor Emeritus of History at Connecticut College.[3]

Life

He graduated from Phillips Academy in 1960.[4] He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Ph.D. in History in 1971.

In 2002, he was involved in the Stephen B. Oates controversy.[5][6] In 2010, he won the Lincoln Prize for his Abraham Lincoln: A Life.
