Membrío is a municipality located in the province of Cáceres, Extremadura, Spain. According to the 2006 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 880 inhabitants.

Its Limits and its population

The village lies among the purest natural areas in Europe. It is 207.74 km2, which makes this village one of the vaster municipalities in Spain; being its population of 880 inhabitants, Membrío is 66 km away from the town of Cáceres and within 30 km of the Portuguese frontier.

The village constitutes a symbol of how natural and simple life can conquer the hearts of urban people.

Membrío celebrates, on every August 15, a holiday dedicated to Saint Mary: Our Lady of Grace. During the holidays, Membrío duplicates and even triplicates its population, due to all Membrio emigrants and their families coming back for a few days. Other membrillero festivities worth the visit are the Carnival and Easter, when, following the southern Spanish tradition, the baroque church icons are taken into the streets.
