Meknès-Tafilalet (Berber: Meknas-Tafilalt) is one of the old sixteen regions of Morocco.[1] It is situated in north-central Morocco, bordering Algeria. It covers an area of 79,210 km² and has a population of 2,316,865 (2014 census).[2] The capital is Meknès.

History

Considerable prehistory is evidenced within the region, notably the ruined ancient city of Volubilis, which was originally settled by Phoenicians and Romans.[3]
