McAdams, Mississippi

McAdams is an unincorporated community in Attala County, Mississippi. It is located southwest of Kosciusko along Mississippi Highway 12.

History

The community was settled by the McAdams family in 1847, when Joshua Teague McAdams settled in the community with eight of his children, building churches and the McAdams school. He also built and operated a cotton gin, and saw mill. Other early settlers were Alexander Gowan and his family, the Utz family, the Adcock family, and the Teague family. It grew to over 200 family members by 1887. Many moved on to Louisiana and Texas by 1898.

Notable people

Professional basketball player Billy Ray Bates[1] grew up in McAdamsville.[2]
