Mauro Caruana O.S.B. (16 November 1867 - 17 December 1943) was a Maltese catholic archbishop who became the bishop of Malta in 1915 upon the death of Archbishop Pietro Pace.
Caruana was born in Floriana Malta on November 16, 1867. At the age of 18 he was professed as a member of the Benedictine order and he took his solemn profession three years later in 1888. He was ordained priest of the order in 1891. In 1915 he was appointed as the bishop of Malta with the honorary title of Archbishop of Rhodes. He was consecrated by the Spanish cardinal Rafael Merry del Val on February 10 of the same year.[1] On March 29, 1928 he was given the personal title of Archbishop of Malta since until then the diocese had not been elevated to a metropolitan see. Archbishop Caruana died during the war period on December 17, 1943.
