Matt Kennedy (born March 4, 1989) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who is currently playing for the University of Waterloo in the Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS).

Playing career

Prior to turning professional, Kennedy played major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the Guelph Storm. Kennedy was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 5th round (131st overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

On November 23, 2010, Kennedy, along with Stefan Chaput, was traded by Carolina to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Ryan Carter.[1] He was assigned to American Hockey League affiliates, the Syracuse Crunch and the Norfolk Admirals for the duration of his contract.

After sitting out the 2013-14 season, upon the completion of his entry-level deal, Kennedy opted to play collegiate hockey in order to further his education in committing to the University of Waterloo of the CIS on August 27, 2014.[2]
