The Suzuki Ertiga is a 7-seat compact MPV developed by the Japanese manufacturer Suzuki and its Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki. The Ertiga is a compact MPV with seating for 7 people in a 3-row layout.
The Ertiga is also sold in Indonesia as Mazda VX-1.
Overview
It was launched on 12 April 2012 in India,[2] 22 April 2012 in Indonesia and 17 July 2014 in the Philippines.[3] Maruti Suzuki proclaims it to be the first LUV (Life Utility Vehicle).
It competes with the Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo, Tata Sumo Grande, Toyota Avanza, Honda Mobilio, Renault Lodgy and Nissan Grand Livina. This car is powered by K-series 1.4 litre petrol engine. A diesel version of this car is powered by Fiat's 1.3 litre Multijet engine. The car is based on extended Suzuki Swift platform. This means that the Ertiga is a monocoque MPV; the first in India. It is also considered to be a cross between a saloon/hatchback and an MPV. It has beaten the long-reigning Toyota Innova. This is said that "ERTIGA" is first "muv in world.
The Ertiga is said to be the production version of the R-III (R3) concept showcased by MSIL at the Indian Automobile Exposition 2010. Moreover the name Ertiga is said be an adaptation of R-Tiga where "Tiga" means "three" in Indonesian. The "R" stands for Rows. Therefore, "Ertiga" is derived from "R3" which in turn means "(Swift with) Three Rows".
Engine
Suzuki Ertiga Comes with two engine options with Diesel DDiS available mostly in India and Petrol VVT for the Export Markets.
Petrol
To spur the kitchen, Ertiga K series engine which is K 14 B made from lightweight aluminum, powerful and responsive, work more efficiently so that it remains fuel efficient. The engine is 4-cylinder, 1,373 cc (1.4 CC), DOHC, 16-valve, VVT (Variable Valve Timing).
Powered Multi Point Injection, or fuel supply system into the combustion chamber engine is electronically controlled to produce perfect combustion and get a good engine performance, exhaust emissions are good (according to the standard euro-3) and economical fuel consumption. Not only that power / maximum power of 95 PS / 6,000 rpm with maximum torque of 130 Nm / 4,000 rpm so the car is powered from low rpm and can maneuver in and out of the city.
This engine uses Drive-By-Wire Technology to produce the performance of the machine more accurate, responsive and more responsive acceleration because it supported the ECM system (Electronics Control Module) and the fuel valve opening is controlled by a potentiometer sensor cable replacement gas. Power generated to be optimal, more fuel-efficient and low exhaust emissions making it more friendly to the environment or eco-friendly.
Diesel
The DDiS is a 1.3-litre diesel engine: generates high power and excellent torque. The combination of common rail fuel injection with an inter-cooled turbocharger generates high dynamic torque for excellent acceleration and all-round performance, together with outstanding fuel efficiency, making it one of the best diesel cars in India.
This is also the highly acclaimed 1248cc DDiS, Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) engine, which has already been used by the company in the sedan SX4. The maximum power and peak torque figures of the diesel variant are 90 PS at 4000 rpm and 200 Nm at 1750 rev per minute respectively.
The GA/LXi Variant runs on 15-inch steel wheels with centre caps. GL/VXI, ZXI, LDI, VDI, ZDI is fitted with multi spoked 15-inch alloy wheels with metallic silver coating. Unlike most of its competitors, the Ertiga uses heavier duty five-lug wheels. Suzuki Ertiga has 185/65R15, 195/60R15, and 205/60R15 wheel sizes as standard fitment.
Markets
India
According to Maruti Suzuki, the Indian Ertiga was designed specifically for Indian consumers,[4][5] unlike the other Maruti models which were designed for the global market. Maruti has marketed it as a "Life Utility Vehiclle".[6] 11,000 of these vehicles were ordered in India within five days.[7][8]
In India, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga[9] MPV is available in both the alternatives of diesel and petrol variants. Though both of these engines were also seen doing duties earlier in various models, but this time they are tweaked and retuned to get more out of them, as now they need to bear more burden due to its stretched platform and provide its consumers with some fitting performance figures.
The petrol-run 1.4L power train is K14B; the advanced K-series motor with variable valve timing (VVT) that weights light resulting in better mileage figures. The power train with 1372cc displacement delivers a peak power of 95 PS at 6000 rpm along with a peak torque of 130 Nm at the rate of 4000 rpm.
In June 2013, Maruti Suzuki added its Ertiga models[10] with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). The Ertiga LXi and VXi have original factory converter kit and are provided with i-GPI (intelligent Gas Port Injection) which Maruti Suzuki claimed will achieve 22.8 kilometers of one-liter-premium-equivalent. Previously Maruti Suzuki has CNG models for Alto, Wagon R, Eeco, SX4 and Estilo.[11][12]
