Markovo Republic
Markovo Republic was a self-proclaimed peasant state, located in Russia, 150 kilometers outside Moscow in the Volokolamsk area. It was proclaimed on October 18, 1905, when during the Russian Revolution of 1905 peasants took control of the local government in the village Markovo. It had existed until July 18, 1906. The village elder (starosta) P. A. Burshin was its first and only "president".
