Nationality Netherlands

Marie Duchatel or Marie Du Chastel (? – 1692) was a Netherlands painter from the Southern Netherlands.

She was the daughter of the painter Francois Duchatel and married the painter Eglon van der Neer in 1681 in her hometown of Brussels. She is known for miniature portraits.[1] In his biography of her husband, Weyerman mentioned that he lived in an apartment located underneath hers in "the St. Joseph boarding house in the Keyserstraat in Antwerp", when she was painting daily and living separated from her husband.[2] Of her work he only remarked that she could paint better than she drew.
