Maria Adelaide Sneider (6 December 1937 – 1 May 1989)[1] (also known as Maria Adelaide Sneider Ludovici, her second surname being "Ludovici")[2] was an Italian mathematician working on numerical and mathematical analysis. She is known for her work on the theory of electrostatic capacities of non-smooth closed hypersurfaces:[3] Apart from the development of precise estimates for the numerical approximation of the electrostatic capacity of the unit cube,[4] this work also led her to give a rigorous proof of Green's identities for large classes of hypersurfaces with singularities,[5] and later to develop the an accurate mathematical analysis of the points effect.[6] She is also known for her contributions to the Dirichlet problem for pluriharmonic functions on the unit sphere of ℂn.[7]
Work
Gaetano and his former student Adelaide Sneider have done important work on capacity and in particular on the capacity of a cube and the corresponding potential fields.
