Islamabad railway station (Urdu: اسلام آباد ریلوے اسٹیشن ‎) (Formerly Margalla railway station) is located in sector I-9 Islamabad, the federal capital of Pakistan.

The station was established in 1979 and a rail shuttle was started between Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The shuttle was suspended within a year due to financial loss and the station closed down. In 1988 freight train services were started from this railway station.[2][3]

In May 2009 the station was reopened and renamed as Islamabad Railway Station.Recently On May 15, 2015, New Express Train Named " GreenLine " has been introduced.The train will daily leave Islamabad(Margalla) for Karachi and from Karachi to Islamabad(Margalla) and will make stops at Hyderabad, Rohri, Khanewal, Lahore and Rawalpindi on its way.The Green Line train would leave Karachi Cantt at 10pm for Islamabad’s Margalla station where it would arrive the next day at 8pm. It will have a 30-minute stop at Lahore.From Margalla station of Islamabad, the train will be departing at 3pm to reach Karachi Cantt the next day at 1pm.

There will be fare of Rs 5500 for an adult for the single journey and Rs 4100 for child. it will be the fastest train running from Islamabad to Karachi.
