Marconia is a small community in the region of Basilicata, Italy with about 11,000 inhabitants. It is located in the Province of Matera and is considered a "frazione," or administrative district, of the nearby city of Pisticci. Marconia is located a few kilometers from the Gulf of Taranto on a coastal plain.

Overview

Marconia was settled in the post-World War II period. Many of the town's inhabitants relocated from the older nearby town of Pisticci.

Marconia is named for Guglielmo Marconi, a famous 20th-century Italian credited with inventing wireless communications (radio).
