Established in 1999, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (M&SOM) is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal that is published by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). INFORMS is the professional association that publishes leading management research journals such as Management Science, Marketing Science, Organization Science, Information Systems Research, etc.

Just like Marketing Science that was established in the mid-80s for the Marketing area, M&SOM is the preferred outlet for Operations Management (OM) research articles that are innovative, rigorous and relevant. Also, the M&SOM journal is the flagship journal of the MSOM Society -- the largest subdivision of INFORMS with nearly 1900 members.

Manufacturing & Service Operations Management covers analytical research about operations management in the manufacturing/service industry. According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2013 impact factor of 1.450.[1]

Practical Relevance

Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (M&SOM) publishes top quality Operations Management analytical research articles examining issues such as operations excellence (in terms of cost, quality, and speed), innovative operations (evolutionary and revolutionary), environmental sustainability, and social responsibility that are relevant to industries including (on-shore / off-shore) manufacturing, (online / off-line) retailing, after-sales service, healthcare, airlines, etc. The journal also publishes M&SOM Review (an online blog) to disseminate its key findings to the public.
