The Mannar Island Wind Farm (also sometimes shortened as Mannar Wind Farm) is a proposed 100-megawatt wind farm to be build on the southern coast of the Mannar Island, in Sri Lanka. The project would cost approximately Rs. 17 billion (US$120 million), 70% of which will be borne by the Samurdhi Bank, while the remaining 30% will be borne by the developers, the Ceylon Electricity Board. Identification of land plots and ownership has already begun.[1]
The wind farm is expected to commence operations in mid-2018, under the request of Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya. Tenders for the construction will be called in April 2016.[1] The wind farm is part of a larger 300-megawatt mixed-ownership wind power development plan on the Mannar Island.[2]
