Plot summary
Dosti... Yaariyan... Manmarziyan is a story about Radhika Mishra and Samaira Khanna two young women who are friends but hail from different backgrounds. Radhika, a reserved but amiable middle-class girl, loves to write. She desires to become a successful independent working woman unlike the other women who succumb to marriage and household chores. She meets one such woman Samaira Khanna who works for Advertising company Bird Song. She had come down to Radhika's native Hrishikesh for an Ad-shoot. Samaira on the other hand is a depressed youngster who has sour relationship with her mother. Her only solace is her best friend Neil, who bears her temper tantrums and keeps her life smooth sailing. Neil is also his co-worker and cheif copy-writer of the company. Samaira's mother Piyali Khanna is the chairwoman of Bird Song, and her father Samrat Khanna jointly runs the business. Time passes and Samaira's bitterness towards her mother's indifferent behaviour leads to various chaos. Radhika, who had been dreaming of working outside gets a green flag from her supportive grand-father, who plans her way out. In a fit of anger Samaira calls Radhika to come down and work for her mother which she takes seriously, and struggling against her father's decision of getting married she somehow manages to arrive at Mumbai.
Knowing all this to be a mere misunderstanding, Radhika leaves disappointed and defeated, while Samaira's mother decides to hand her a job. It takes her quite a time to adjust to office atmosphere, jealous co-workers, metro city etc, and she is thrown out of the uncle-aunty's place for coming home late. Finally Samaira befriends her, with Neil who had been always friendly with her. Meanwhile Samaira encounters a new man in her lonely world, Arjun. He is a charismatic brooding handsome man, with a hidden motive. He encourages Samaira to keep her head up against her mother, thus making his place in her heart. Samaira tries to avoid him, thinking of him not trustworthy. She however falls for his charms. Arjun arranges a home for Samaira who had decided to stay away from her mother. She takes Radhika in with her. The two become best friends. While Samaira tells her deepest secrets, like the accident which killed her brother Jai long back and thus strained her relationship with her mom, Radhika tries to help her out. Arjun however doesn't like her interference, as his pretention of love with Samaira is a plan of his unknown revenge with the Khannas. Things become difficult as Samaira's best friend Neil harbours romantic feelings for her, and Arjun secretly starts developing a crush for Radhika. Unbeknownst, Radhika smells the something fishy about Arjun. She thus tries all hook and crook to keep him away from Samaira. However, due to her love-hate relation with Arjun, she realizes that deep down Arjun is a very good person. She hence quits her efforts and stays away from their affair.
The plot becomes chaotic as it is revealed that Samaira's father Samrat Khanna had an affair with Nandini Pandey, Arjun's 'sister'. Arjun was an orphan and Nandini had sort of adopted him. The estrained affair had left Nandini shattered, which resulted in a life long agony harboured in his heart. Nandini Pandey had been manipulating Arjun since then for taking a perfect revenge over Samrat's daughter.
Radhika discovers all the secrets and the evil plans of Nandini. She decides to reveal the ploy before Samaira. However Nandini succeeds in manipulating Samaira against Radhika as well. Dejected and afraid that Samaira might not be able to accept the fact of her father's affair, Radhika marries Arjun.
Things change after marriage. Nandini's plans are put to rest for a while who instead focuses on Radhika's kitchen politics. Arjun meanwhile gets to come close to Radhika, although in a sour love-hate bond. Radhika gets to know more about Arjun, that he is essentially a very good man who is being misled by the evil Nandini. Meanwhile the heartbroken Neil finally gets an oppurtunity to show his true feelings, while Samaira gets to understand her true desires. She too realizes the importance of Neil in her life and that he is actually the dream-guy she had been looking for. In the end, Radhika succeeds in revealing Nandini's true face before Arjun. Samaira realizes her true love and ends her friendship with Neil. Radhika thus achieving her goal of getting rid of the evil Nandini out of Arjun's life, decides to leave him for the sake of Samaira. Few months later, when Samaira is known to have been married, Radhika's mother persuades her to get married too. Radhika, being in Hrishikesh, rejects the idea of getting married and yet wearing her Mangal-sutra (denoting that she too fell in love with Arjun), waits in her room. She believed Arjun to have married to Samaira. The last episode ends with Arjun arriving at Hrishikesh, embracing Radhika and proposing her. He tells Samaira had married Neil, and that Arjun had always been in love with Radhika. They get married again and the story ends with a happy note of all working together in the same company, and pursuing their successful careers.
