Mankweng is a township in Capricorn District Municipality in the Limpopo province of South Africa. Mankweng also known as Turfloop is a university township, though relatively small to the likes of Grahamstown.

Mankweng is the home town of the former ANC Youth League president, Peter Mokaba. Mankweng as a community is very dynamic, and draws skilled professionals in to the area because the area houses a leading regional hospital, Mankweng Campus Hospital, university (in the form of University of Limpopo), a regional Magistrate court, and a public library.

Mankweng is a rural area about 30 km from Polokwane on the Tzaneen road. The population of the area is 99% African, with 94% Northern Sotho speakers (Census, 2002). The population is predominantly Sepedi speaking, with exception to Xitsonga and Venda language speakers who settled in the area either for educational and or employment opportunities.

Mankwneg falls under Capricorn District, and thus does not have a local government, except a councillor who represent the area at district level. In recent times, the area has been rapidly growing with local residents next to the University converting their home rentals in order to house the growing population of students many parts of the country, with some coming from as far as East and North Africa.
