Malaysia–European Union Free Trade Agreement

Malaysia and the EU will be launching preliminary negotiation on the Malaysia - European Union Free Trade Agreement (MEUFTA). Malaysia expects the Free Trade Agreement between Malaysia and European Union (MEUFTA) to be concluded within 18 months of the start of negotiations in early December.

Background

The EU is a key trade and investment partner for Malaysia, ranked Malaysia's 4th largest trading partner. In 2009, the EU accounted for 11.2 per cent of Malaysia's global trade and 10.8 per cent of Malaysia's total exports.

As a regional grouping, the EU remains Malaysia's largest source of foreign direct investment with a total investment inflow of $US13.6 billion (A$14.02 billion) last year, mainly in manufacturing.
