Mahira Hafeez Khan (pronounced [maɦiːraː hafiːz kʰan]; born 21 December 1982)[1] is a Pakistani film and television actress and former VJ.[2][3][4]

Khan was born and raised in Karachi into an Urdu speaking Pathan family. After attending Foundation Public School, she moved to United States at the age of 17 and earned a Bachelors degree from the University of Southern California. In 2006, she returned to Pakistan and worked as a VJ for several television shows, including Weekends with Mahira on AAG TV . She made her acting debut with a supporting role in the 2011 critically acclaimed social drama Bol. Her performance in the film garnered positive reviews and earned her the Lux Style Award for Best Actress nomination. The same year, she ventured into television dramas—the ARY Digital's romance Neeyat. The romantic drama Humsafar (2011) marked a turning-point in her career which earned her wide critical appreciation and the Lux Style Award for Best Television Actress, thus making Khan a household name. She received more praise for playing lead in the two highly successful women-oriented series, the 2013 spiritual romance Shehr-e-Zaat and the 2014 romantic drama Sadqay Tumhare. She went on to play starring roles in the films, the romantic drama Bin Roye (2015), the biographical drama Manto and the coming-of-age drama Ho Mann Jahaan (2016), all of which rank among the highest-grossing Pakistani films. Career

Khan began her career as a VJ when she was 16 years old. [9] Most Wanted on MTV Pakistan, and she then hosted Weekends with Mahira on Aag TV. In 2013, she hosted 1st Hum Awards with Mikaal Zulfiqar.

In 2011, Khan made her film debut with Bol directed by Shoaib Mansoor, produced by Shamoon Abbasi. Khan played the role of (Ayesha, a feisty tomboy) who is harassed by her father and marries a Shia Muslim boy without telling her father.

In 2011, she appeared in television program Humsafar, for which she received positive reviews.[10][11] Humsafar was also telecast in India.

Khan has been named 10th in 50 ‘Sexiest Asian Women’ poll by Eastern Eye in 2015.[12][3][13][14] According to Eastern Eye. Mahira Khan was ranked among the top 10 sexiest Asian women of 2015 and also the sexiest Pakistani woman of 2015.[15][16]

She began shooting for Asim Raza's upcoming film Ho Mann Jahaan in 2014.[17] Khan appears in Raees an upcoming Indian crime film directed by Rahul Dholakia.[18]

Personal life

Khan is married to Ali Askari, who had attended college with her in Los Angeles. The ceremony took place on 13 July 2007.[19] During an interview on The Reham Khan Show, Mahira stated that her parents are Urdu-speaking Pathans.[20][21]
