Madiwala is a locality in Bangalore, India. It is a bustling center of activity from grocery markets to IT to shopping mall. Being at the center of the IT corridor it is well known across Bangalore.

History

The history of Madivala dates back to many thousands of years ago. It is the oldest locality in Bangalore, based on archaeological documents and the temple of Lord Someshwara contains inscriptions that refer to the Chola kings having presided over the construction of the Temple of Lord Someshwara in Madivala.[1]

The huge statue of Lord Hanuman in the Temple of Lord Hanuman is yet another well-known land-mark in addition to the famous Lord Ayyappa Temple. This temple dates back to many years ago and the Maruthinagar locality, is famous for its upper class residents and Paying Guest (PG) accommodations.

Known For

Madivala is one of the city's bustling trade centres similar to Jalahalli at Peenya and DVG road at Basavanagudi and other similar places inhabited for the most part by middle class and upper middle class citizens.

It is close to Koramangala, Bommanahalli, BTM Layout, HSR Layout, Mico Layout, Bannerghatta Road, Jayanagar and JP Nagar among other localities, each situated at a distance of less than five kilometres from Madivala. The City Railway Station at Majestic is eight Kilometres from Madivala. St. John's Medical College Hospital, a renowned missionary hospital, is at Madiwala.

Languages

Widely spoken languages are Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, English and also Hindi. Madiwala's primary population involves immigrants from Tamil Nadu & Kerala.

Madiwala lake

Madiwala Lake is one of the biggest lakes in Bangalore. Its area is 114.3 ha (0.441 sq mi; 1.143 km2). It is situated in the BTM Layout at 12° 54' 28" North, 77° 37' 0" East. It is a home to many migratory birds. Madiwala Lake comes under the administration of Karnataka State Forest Department which carries out the routine maintenance of this lake. Pelican migration

Madiwala Lake sees a huge number of spot-billed pelican migration in the winter (November–December). These pelicans live in groups. The main food is fish. Pelicans take small flights across the lake for fishing. These birds can also be sighted in Sri Lanka. Typically their wingspan is about 8.5 ft (2.6 m). Local people have great love towards these migratory birds. Egrets can also be sighted.
