M. Subramaniam

M. Subramaniam was a mayor of Chennai from 2006–2011, the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. He is a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party. He again contested for the mayoral election in 2011 as a DMK candidate, but lost to Saidai Sa Duraisamy of ADMK.

He is a lawyer by profession and he lives in Guindy Labour Colony.

Subramanian completed his higher education in Saidapet government higher secondary school and later completed his bachelor's degree in an Open University course. He did his LLB from Heavanur College of Law at Bangalore. He Joined the DMK in 1976 and became the chairman of Chennai Corporation during 1996-2006. He was elected Chennai mayor in 2006. He is DMK's youth wing deputy general secretary and is known to be a strong loyalist of M K Stalin. He is also a practising advocate in the Madras High Court since 1999. His interests are films, yoga and astrenuous workouts in the gym.
