M. H. Saboo Siddik (commonly known as MHSS or Saboo Siddik or Saboo) is an engineering college located in Byculla at Saboo Siddik Polytechnic Road, Mumbai, India, affiliated with the University of Mumbai.[1] It is an 'A' Grade institution, and is accredited by the NBA and AICTE.[2] The college 154 staff (57-teaching, 97-non-teaching) and a student body of about 1200.

History

The Mohammed Haji Saboo Siddik Institute (A Muslim Minority Institution) owes its existence to the munificence of late Mohammed, son of Haji Saboo Siddik, who bequeathed a large sum of money for establishing, conducting and managing this Institution for imparting Vocational, Technical and Industrial training and education. The value of the assets, so bequeathed, exceeded Rupees Three Crore at the time of donation.

The Institution is managed and administered by the Anjuman-i-Islam as the sole trustee, appointed by the Bombay High Court's decree and scheme framed and sanctioned thereunder.

The college building accommodates workshops, laboratories, classrooms, lecture halls, drawing halls, student's common room, seminar hall, library, reading-rooms, offices. The library of the College is housed in a separate building and is has reference sections and reading-rooms for students and staff. A Seminar Hall was inaugurated by Zafar Saifullah IAS, Cabinet Secretary of India & Dr. Raja Ramanna, Minister of State for Defence and an eminent scientist of India, on the annual day celebrations on 9 April 2001.

Achievements

It has won an international competition held in Texas,USA. While one team won the first prize globally at the Aero Design in Micro Class SAE Aero Design West Micro Class 2014 and second place in Micro Class SAE Aero Design 2015, another team emerged as the top winner from Asia in the Advanced Class contest,The competition was held at Fortworth, Texas, United States, from March 28–30, 2014 & 2015. The team consisted of Sanjay Kumar (Faculty), Adith Ajayan (Captain), Abdul Kadir Poonawala, Imran Merchant, Hussain Shaikh, Muzammil Sarkhot, Darpan Agarwal, Afsan Gujarati and Sharang Biradar, from the automobile engineering stream.

It has also won ASME's (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), Human Powered Vehicle Challenge, India, 2015 held in January 2015 in Delhi, India. The team MHSS Ciclismo placed 3rd in the Design category and won a special achievement award.[3] The team consisted of Uwais Holy (Captain), Hasan-Ul-Banna Khan (Vice Captain), Nashith Khalifa (Head of Design), Taha Kanchwala (Head of Manufacturing), Vishwajeet Poojary (Team Manager), Arif Patel (Head of Racing), Amey Hande, Huzefa Sayed, Shazil Rushnaiwala, Abdullah Shaikh, Shahnawaz Khan, Tabish Posharkar, Preeti Karnik, Kesha Patel and Saloni Sawant.
