Jian Ghomeshi

In October 2014, DeCoutere joined seven anonymous women in publicly alleging sexualized violence by former CBC Radio personality Jian Ghomeshi. DeCoutere was the first alleged victim to publicly identify herself. Later, lawyer and author Reva Seth publicly accused Ghomeshi of sexual abuse.

DeCoutere alleged that in 2003, Ghomeshi assaulted her in his apartment after the two had a dinner date.[5] She claimed that Ghomeshi, without warning or consent, choked her to the point where she could not breathe and then slapped her a few times across the face.[3][6] DeCoutere later made her allegations to police, along with two other women. Toronto Police launched an investigation into the incidents.[7] Ghomeshi was later charged with sexual assault and choking.

Ghomeshi's trial began on February 1, 2016. DeCoutere testified at the trial, saying that Ghomeshi choked her and slapped her three times in July 2003.[8][9]
