The Second Season of Lucha Underground, a Lucha libre, or professional wrestling television show began in January 27, 2016 broadcast on the El Rey Network in the United States. The season has been announced as having 25 1-hour episodes and a 2-hour final show. The show chronicles events that take place in the "Lucha Underground Temple". The producers behind Lucha Underground announced that the second season was a reality on September 21.[1] Unlike the first season the second season of Lucha Underground was not picked up by UniMás and thus not broadcast in Mexico. The first episode was taped on November 15, 2015 in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, California.

Returning to the Lucha Underground Temple of Boyle Heights where Catrina has taken control of the temple in Dario Cueto's absence since the end of Season 1. Vampiro is released from a mental institute, claiming that he has his "violent tendencies" under control, returning to the Temple to provide commentary alongside Matt Striker. In Catrina's office Fénix asks to cash in the Gift of the Gods Championship, but Catrina books him against King Cuerno first, with the Gift of the Gods Championship on the line. While the matches take place Mil Muertes watches from his throne up on high. King Cuerno wins the Gift of the Gods Championship, The trio of Angélico, Ivelisse and Son of Havoc demand a match for the Lucha Underground Trios Championship, but instead Catrina pits the three against each other with the winner getting match against Mil Muertes for the Lucha Underground Championship. While the others hold back during the match Ivelisse fights and wins the match. The match immediately rolls into the championship match as Mil Muertes attacks Ivelisse, defeating her to retain the championship. After the match both Prince Puma and Pentagón Jr. come out to confront Mil Muertes. The episode ends with Dario Cuerto arranging fights against his brother Matanza in an unknown location.[2][3]
