Louisiana Highway 490 (LA 490) is a state highway in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. It spans 14.6 miles (23.5 km), serving the communities of Janie, Chopin, and Marco.

Route description

LA 490 begins at a dirt road south of Janie and travels northeast. It has an interchange with Interstate 49 in Chopin before crossing a railroad and serving a Martco factory. LA 490 meets LA 1 and turns right onto it for about 2.7 miles (4.3 km). LA 490 leaves LA 1 by turning left towards Marco. LA 490 intersects LA 3279 at its northern terminus and continues heading east. It passes a dirt road that once carried LA 490 to a ferry to Colfax and turns north. Just past the driveway to the Red River's Lock and Dam #3, LA 490 ends at a gate to a dirt levee road.[1]

A ferry formerly operated that carried LA 490 across the Red River to Colfax. On the former eastern landing of the ferry, LA 490 continued east on Faircloth Street to 2nd Street. There, Faircloth Street continued east as LA 490 Spur to LA 158 but LA 490 turned south on 2nd Street to end at LA 8.
