Longbeck railway station serves the village of Marske-by-the-Sea and also New Marske in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland and the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England. It is located on the Tees Valley Line and operated by Northern Rail who provide all passenger train services. The station was opened in May 1985 by British Rail. The small signal box here supervises the junction & station area at nearby Saltburn and the freight line to Boulby as well as the adjacent level crossing.[1]
Station facilities here have recently been improved as part of the Tees Valley Metro project. The package for this station included new fully lit waiting shelters, renewed station signage and the installation of CCTV. The long-line Public Address system (PA) has been renewed and upgraded with pre-recorded train announcements.
Services
There are two trains per hour in each direction from the station during the day, to Saltburn eastbound and Middlesbrough & Darlington westbound with some of the latter continuing to Bishop Auckland. This drops to hourly in the evenings and on Sundays. Most services are formed using Class 142 Pacer DMUs.
Freight trains operating to and from Boulby also pass through the station.
