Little Cherry

Little Cherry (Chinese: 小樱桃; pinyin: Xiǎo Yīng Táo) is a Chinese media franchise created by Yangshang Jun in 2000. Owned by the Zhengzhou-based Xiao Ying Tao Comics Company, it is primarily comedy manhua featuring a girl whose name is also Little Cherry. The "Xiao Ying Tao" name in the media works and the company is sometimes abbreviated XOYTO.[1]

History

As of May 2006, the comics have 21,000 chapters and 200 volumes, according to the company's general manager, and 10 million copies have been sold according to the Henan Daily. As of June that year the Xiao Ying Tao Comics Company announced a shift of focus from comics to film and television.[2] Also in that year the company announced a joint venture with the En-Snow Food Company to produce XOYTO comics-branded soft drinks.[3]

In 2008, a 26 episode animated television series debuted on CCTV. The second season premiered on July 2010, in which at that time the third season was reportedly in development.[4]

In October 2012, the franchise's Little Cherry Rescue Angels comic received the Golden Dragon Award for best children's comic.[5]
